Childhood musical blessings

Part 2 (continued from last post)

Meymandi Concert Hall holds dear memories for me as a concert attender for the North Carolina Symphony, and also a performer in the Triangle Youth Philharmonic. Performing in Meymandi gave me one step closer to realizing my dream of being a famous musician. I performed in Meymandi almost every fall and spring since I was twelve till I was seventeen. Throughout those years I progressively moved up through the ranks of the three youth orchestras offered. Every fall we had to audition to make it into one of the three orchestras. That was also a very exciting part of the year. I would prepare my repretoire over the very distracting summer vacation. And, then summer was over and the audition was eminent. After the very nerve wracking audition, I would evantually find out which orchestra I had made it into. During my last year of elligibility, I finally made it into one of the four flute positions in the top orchestra, the Triangle Youth Philharmonic.

In the Triangle Youth Philharmonic, we were under the very amazing and prestigious tutalage of Mr. Partridge. We learned and performed some very difficult orchestral works. I grew as a musician and as an ensemblest. The best parts of the year were the performances every fall and spring. We would all dress up in concert black and white and be on our best behavior for these concerts. This time as I drove downtown to Meymandi, I wasn't going as an attender, I was going as a performer! I loved the lights and the polished wood floor of the stage. But, most of all I loved the process of crafting the music over the semester, and then being able to showcase our music and hardwork in Meymandi Concert Hall.
